Panic! At The Disco Wins MTV Video of the Year

Market Wire, September, 2006

Panic! At The Disco walked away with the top honor at last night's 2006 MTV Video Music Awards, winning the coveted Video of the Year trophy for their smash single, "I Write Sins Not Tragedies." First-time nominees, the Decaydance/ Fueled By Ramen group, was the only new artist to garner a nomination in the biggest category of the awards. "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" was directed by Shane C. Drake.

James Blunt and Gnarls Barkley were the only multiple award winners of the night. Multi-platinum singer/songwriter James Blunt picked up both the Best Male Video and Best Cinematography awards for his #1 Custard/Atlantic single, "You're Beautiful," directed by Sam Brown. Fellow newcomers Gnarls Barkley were also double winners, with the Downtown/Atlantic duo winning in the Best Direction and Best Editing categories for their genre-breaking single, "Crazy," directed by Robert Hales.

Rounding out the wins for the Atlantic Records Group was the unstoppable Missy Elliott, whose Goldmind/Atlantic clip for "We Run This" picked up the Best Special Effects trophy. "We Run This" was directed by Dave Meyers.

The Atlantic Records Group, which led the industry with the most nominations for this year's MTV Awards, continued its hot streak by having more winners than any other label last night -- with four artists picking up a total of six VMAs. The show also featured performances by Atlantic Group recording artists Panic! At The Disco, T.I., and Missy Elliott.
