TNC Co-Chair Discusses the Future of Network Access Control on "StillSecure, After All These Years" Podcast
Market Wire, October, 2006
StillSecure®, provider of an award-winning, integrated suite of enterprise network security solutions, and the Trusted Computing Group (TCG) today announced that Steve Hanna, Distinguished Engineer at Juniper Networks, Inc. and Co-Chair of the TCG's Trusted Network Connect (TNC) initiative, will discuss network access control (NAC) and how the TCG TNC will influence security interoperability in coming years. He is this week's featured guest on StillSecure's weekly podcast, " StillSecure, After All These Years " (SSAATY).
"SSAATY" is a weekly discussion led by Alan Shimel, Chief Strategy Officer of StillSecure, and Mitchell Ashley, Chief Technology Officer of StillSecure, on relevant topics in infosecurity such as IDS/IPS , vulnerability management , and network access control . Each episode features general security news and an interview with a guest industry expert.
In this episode's 40-minute discussion, Mr. Hanna updates listeners on the state of the TCG TNC initiative, a set of open specifications for NAC allowing organizations to help assure the integrity of devices connecting to the network and enforce security policies. Mr. Hanna gets to the heart of the TNC's sustainability, focusing on key issues and unanswered questions such as:
-- Where are we on the TCG adoption curve?
-- Are vendors adopting TNC and how many are shipping TNC-compatible
products?
-- Does Cisco's participation make a difference or not to the TCG?
-- What will be Microsoft's involvement with TCG?
-- Why does Cisco support industry initiatives such as the IETF but not
the TCG?
-- Do the goals of TNC conflict with those of IETF or is there room for
both standards to support NAC?
-- Is TNC just a standards body for Juniper/FUNK or is it a cross-vendor
initiative?
-- How much more work is there to do with TCG TNC?
-- What will true interoperability mean to the success or failure of the
NAC market?
"We are very excited to have Steve on the podcast because we were able to answer the questions that everyone's thinking about the TCG TNC initiative but haven't yet asked," said Mitchell Ashley, CTO and VP of Customer Experience at StillSecure. "StillSecure was one of the initial NAC vendors supporting TNC and we have been an active participant for quite some time. It's important that the market understands the goals of the TNC and how it will help drive industry-wide adoption of NAC."
