NutriSystem(R) Ranks First on Forbes' List of 200 Best Small Companies
Market Wire, October, 2006
NutriSystem® (NASDAQ: NTRI) today announced that it has been ranked first on Forbes' list of 200 best small companies. The list, included in the October 30 issue of Forbes magazine, rated public companies based on sales, earnings growth and return on equity among other criteria.
Under the leadership of Mike Hagan, Chairman and CEO since 2002, NutriSystem's company has grown from $27 million in sales to a company expected to do more than $500 million in sales in 2006. Michael Hagan was also named "Entrepreneur of the Year" in the same issue.
NutriSystem taps into consumers' desire to lose weight through advertisements that showcase success with before and after photos. Once consumers register for the weight loss program, the company provides pre-packaged, portion-controlled meals conveniently shipped to their doorstep. The meals are based on low glycemic index foods which break down slowly in the body and keep blood sugars stable, promote satiety and boost metabolism. Customers also can participate in free one-on-one counseling sessions online or via telephone.
"We are proud to be honored with the top ranking," said Hagan. "It's a reflection of the many quality people who work for NutriSystem. We provide an effective weight loss method, focused on balanced meals and portion control, while offering great taste with tried and true favorites like lasagna and chocolates. The simplicity and convenience of our program have led to great achievements for the company and our customers."
As NutriSystem continues to grow, consumers can expect to see new culinary creations and more successful before and after images, including celebrities such as football star Dan Marino.
