Vue Technology and Paxar to Unveil Mobile and Smart Shelf RFID Solutions for Retailers at EPCglobal US Conference
Market Wire, October, 2006
EPCglobal US Conference, Booth # 211 -- Vue Technology, Inc., the leading provider of RFID networking and item-level solutions, and Paxar Corporation (NYSE: PXR), a global leader providing bar code, RFID and identification technologies for the retail supply chain and the supplier of Monarch® products and services, today announced that they will jointly offer several turn-key item-level RFID solutions targeted at retailers. Expanding upon their existing relationship, the companies will debut a mobile cart solution to provide complete inventory management from a single station; a handheld solution that provides an easy, cost-effective entry point for item-level RFID; and an integrated mobile cart/smart shelf solution that achieves the maximum potential of item-level RFID to deliver continuous and widespread inventory visibility.
All three solutions run on Vue's TrueVUE(TM) RFID Platform, and leverage Paxar's tags, mobile carts and Paxar's M9855 RFMP printer/encoderto improve inventory visibility. These solutions will enable retailers to increase same store sales, streamline replenishment activities, reduce inventory shrink, improve employee productivity and enhance the overall customer experience.
The Paxar mobile cart solution provides a flexible entry point into item-level RFID, by consolidating everything from receiving to tag printing to inventory counting into a single station that can be moved throughout the retail environment as needed. Eliminating the need for separate dedicated stations, Paxar's mobile cart solution offers an extremely cost-effective means to achieve the benefits of item-level RFID.
The handheld solution provides an alternate or complementary mobile approach, for environments where multiple devices might be needed, or where sales associates would benefit from having immediate access to RFID information.
For both mobile solutions, the labor costs associated with inventory counts can now be dramatically reduced, and inventory visibility improved through periodic inventory "snapshots." For small-scale applications, or within specialty areas where smart shelving is not used, this solution is ideal and introduces retailers to the benefits of item-level RFID with minimal investment.
By combining the mobile cart capabilities with RFID enabled "smart shelves," Vue and Paxar deliver the ultimate balance of continual, real-time inventory visibility (for high velocity, high value items) with inventory snapshots (appropriate for slower moving items), and flexible backroom receiving and tag commissioning. The frequency and breadth of inventory updates yields the greatest benefits to retailers, rounded out by the complete, turn-key capabilities of the offering.
"We have joined forces with Paxar to provide retailers with a complete range of cost-effective RFID solutions for achieving the proven benefits of item-level inventory visibility in the retail environment," said Tim von Kaenel, senior VP of product management and business development for Vue Technology. "These joint solutions are specifically designed to address a retailer's varying needs for fixed and mobile capabilities. By bundling the power of the TrueVUE RFID Platform with Paxar's mobile carts, printers and tags, we are paving the way for retailers to immediately begin recognizing the value of item-level inventory tracking in terms of a dramatic impact to their bottom line."
Item-level RFID implementations have already enabled retailers to:
-- Increase overall sales by up to 20%
-- Improve accuracy of in-store inventory data from 80% to 99%
-- Achieve a 25% reduction of floor level out-of-stock situations
-- Significantly reduce shrink
"We have partnered with Vue Technology to provide retail customers with an easy, cost-effective way to kick-start item-level initiatives in a way that provides a rapid time-to-market without any compromise to achieving maximum benefits," said Rick Bauer, Paxar's director, RFID Global Program Development. "The combination of Paxar's hardware, RFID tags and printers with the TrueVUE RFID Platform, creates tremendous opportunity for retailers to begin leveraging the power of RFID for dramatic improvements resulting in quantifiable ROI."
The joint solutions will include all of the necessary components for a successful end-to-end item-level RFID pilot or deployment, and are available for purchase now from Vue Technology or Paxar. These solutions will be demonstrated at the EPCglobal US Conference from October 16 through October 18.
