Green Car Journal Honored With Folio: Eddie Award, Utne Reader Nomination
Market Wire, October, 2006
Green Car Journal, an independently owned auto enthusiast magazine that focuses on the intersection of automobiles, energy, and the environment, has been honored with a 2006 Eddie award for editorial excellence by Folio: magazine. Green Car Journal received a Silver Award in the consumer automotive magazine category.
"We're delighted by this recognition from the magazine industry's leading voice, particularly amid a field of such distinguished publications," says Ron Cogan, publisher and founder of the Green Car Journal. "This award is especially meaningful to the magazine staff as we continue to combine our passion for cars with a mission that highlights the importance of vehicles more compatible with our nation's energy and environmental needs." Green Car Journal regularly covers hybrid, E85 ethanol, natural gas, biodiesel, clean diesel, hydrogen fuel cell, and low emission, high fuel economy gasoline vehicles.
Green Car Journal's Spring 2006 issue -- which included coverage of the magazine's Green Car of the Year program, an interview with Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, and an in-depth look at renewable ethanol fuel -- was evaluated alongside 2200 entries in this year's Folio: awards program.
In addition to this distinction, Green Car Journal is named in Utne Reader's December 2006 issue as a nominee for the Utne Independent Press Award in the category of Environmental Coverage, alongside such publications as Earth Island Journal, World Watch, and the Sierra Club's Sierra magazine.
Launched initially as a newsletter in 1992 and then as a quarterly consumer magazine in Summer 2003, Green Car Journal's mission is to inform and entertain like conventional auto enthusiast magazines, while also encouraging broader consumer understanding of more environmentally positive and energy efficient vehicles. The magazine includes essays by noted leaders in the automotive, energy, and environmental fields to provide interesting perspectives that help readers draw their own conclusions about the automobile's place in our world today. Widespread distribution of Green Car Journal copies among the nation's media also helps educate journalists about this field, influencing print and broadcast stories about these vehicles and technologies on a larger stage.
Selected Green Car Journal content can be viewed on the print magazine's companion web publication, Green Car Journal Online, at www.greencar.com .
