Blogging Leader Six Apart and Russian Online Media Company SUP Partner Around LiveJournal
Market Wire, October, 2006
Six Apart, the world leader in blogging software and services, and SUP, an emerging Russian online media company, today announced a partnership to localize and improve the LiveJournal service for Russian speakers worldwide. Russia is the second-largest territory for LiveJournal users, and LiveJournal is the most popular blogging service in Russia, with over 4.4 million monthly visitors to the site.
LiveJournal, an online community organized around personal journals, is one of four blogging products provided by Six Apart. LiveJournal was founded by Brad Fitzpatrick in 1999 and acquired by Six Apart in 2005. In its seven-year existence, LiveJournal has helped fuel the rapid growth of blogging worldwide, and is known for its rich topic-oriented communities and customizable privacy features.
SUP is a Russian online media company founded and led by Andrew Paulson, an American entrepreneur living in Russia, and Aleksandr Mamut, a well-known Russian financier. With Paulson's expertise in both the publishing world and online media, SUP is quickly becoming one of the leading Internet companies in Russia. SUP plans to dedicate significant additional resources to improve the usability, speed and the overall experience for Russian users of LiveJournal and expects it to lead in the growth of the Russian blogosphere.
"We're pleased to be giving our Russian users long-awaited local support through this partnership. SUP is the ideal partner to provide the level of service, support and feature enhancements that the Russian LiveJournal community deserves. This is a big win for our Russian users," said Barak Berkowitz, Six Apart's CEO.
The Russian version of LiveJournal will continue to be a fully integrated neighborhood of the larger LiveJournal community. SUP and Six Apart will work together to ensure the same ease of user interaction and continued interoperability of features.
"SUP is very proud of its relationship with Six Apart. We believe that Russian LiveJournal is a matchless example of a strong community with a profile unlike any other. We plan to treat it with the great care and respect owed to such a rare organization," said Andrew Paulson, SUP's President and CEO.
