Socialtext Releases SocialPoint
Market Wire, October, 2006
Socialtext , the first wiki company and leading provider of Enterprise 2.0 solutions, today released SocialPoint(TM), a best-of-breed wiki integrated with Microsoft Corporation's® Sharepoint® to help IT managers within large enterprises develop a collaborative platform to facilitate work and information sharing across teams. Sharepoint is the fastest growing server product in Microsoft's history, a popular enterprise solution for collaboration, file sharing and intranets. Enabling robust wiki use within Sharepoint supports the enterprise architecture strategy of many enterprises, while providing the most favored wiki by business users today.
Socialtext developed SocialPoint using the Wiki Web Services, which the company released in Socialtext 2.0 earlier this month, and a collection of Sharepoint Web Parts. Integrated with a SOAP API, SocialPoint enables Sharepoint to authenticate to multiple wikis, display "Recent Changes" and pages within the portal while offering them up for editing.
For example with SocialPoint, a marketing team working on a product launch can collaborate on product marketing materials within the wiki, and then share those materials with field contacts who link to the SharePoint portal so the field is informed about the launch. Conversely, SocialPoint enables the field to provide the market team with direct and timely feedback from customers.
"We are beginning to use Socialtext in our Center for Integrated Health Science Education and Practice to work collaboratively on new ways of educating healthcare workers," said Ken Graetz, eLearning Officer at Winona State University, Minnesota. "We are also very excited about the possibility of integrating Socialtext with our growing Microsoft SharePoint installation. Combining the structure of SharePoint with the open, flexible features of Socialtext's wiki is a great solution for supporting teamwork."
"SocialPoint provides Microsoft SharePoint customers with a trusted, best-of-breed wiki solution," said Ross Mayfield, CEO at Socialtext. "It makes a powerful product even more powerful, by extending its functionality in a critically important area."
Availability
SocialPoint is available immediately and included within Socialtext Professional and Socialtext Enterprise. In addition, SocialPoint will be released under an open source license in the near future. For more information, visit: http://www.socialtext.com/products/pricing .
