Leostream Connection Broker for Hosted Desktop Control Integrates With Wyse Thin Clients

Market Wire, November, 2006

Seeking to further promote the adoption of hosted desktops and the benefits of thin client computing, Leostream Corp. today announced that its Connection Broker for hosted desktops now supports thin clients from Wyse Technology, a global market leader in thin computing.

Leostream's Connection Broker provides policy-based connectivity between fat-, thin-, and web-based clients to physical machines, virtual machines, or Citrix sessions using the most appropriate remote desktop protocol.

The Leostream Client Protocol

A key requirement for Hosted Desktop deployments is single sign-on from either thin or fat (Windows desktop) machines.

Leostream 's published Client Protocol sets the dynamic communication between client device (Thin or Fat) and the Connection Broker -- effectively making the client the visible face of the virtual or physical machine. This provides user with authentication, progress reporting, and remote desktop protocol setup and teardown.

The highlight of this integration is the support for Wyse's recently announced Wyse S10-VDI Edition thin client. The S10-VDI Edition provides a seamless solution in a very small physical package at a very affordable price. In addition, its locked down operating system is not vulnerable to the viruses and malware associated with more open operating systems.

"This integration allows Wyse and Leostream customers to receive additional benefit from their existing virtualization and thin computing initiatives by leveraging the lower cost, security and manageability benefits of the virtual desktop approach," said Anthony Armenta, vice president product management, Wyse.

"The combination of Wyse's thin clients with Leostream's Connection Broker provides users with a secure and highly scalable Hosted Desktop solution that can be setup and deployed without the complexity and operational costs associated with deploying physical machines to user's desks," said David Crosbie, Leostream CTO.

Leostream Connection Broker provides a protocol-agnostic solution to the problem of connecting users to the computing resources they need to do their job. Supplied as a Virtual Appliance, it comes as a self-contained system that can be setup and configured in a few hours.

Benefits include:

-- Zero user retraining - hosted desktops look and behave like physical
    desktops.
-- Single sign-on from either Thin or Fat (Windows 2000, XP, and Vista)
machines avoids the need to re-enter usernames and passwords.
-- Progress reporting keeps user informed of progress and errors
associated with assigning a desktop, such as "no Hosted Desktop available,"
    or "Hosted Desktop starting."
-- Integration with existing remote desktop viewer avoids the need for
Java, ensures a highly responsive user experience.
-- Support for a wide range of remote desktop protocols enables the
complexity of the backend system to be hidden from the user - they just log-
in and are automatically connected to the appropriate resource using the
    necessary connectivity.
-- Hosted desktops centralize sensitive information, reduce risk of data
    loss.
-- Thin clients can be locked down so it is not possible to copy data
onto removable storage. The thin clients themselves are not worth stealing
and contain no user data - ensuring compliance with data security
    regulations such as HIPAA.
-- Desktops can be remotely managed and assigned to users from a pool and
be returned to the pool after use.
