Symantec to Provide End-to-End Messaging Management for Microsoft Exchange Server 2007
Market Wire, November, 2006
Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC), a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, today announced that it will offer market-leading, end-to-end messaging management support for customers migrating to Exchange Server 2007.
"Our customers need to secure, manage, and archive all aspects of their messaging environment, while also ensuring compliance with IT policies and government regulations," said Francis deSouza, vice president of Enterprise Messaging Management, Symantec. "Because many of our customers depend on Microsoft for their mission-critical communications infrastructure, Symantec remains committed to working closely with Microsoft to provide our customers with full support for new technology releases."
"Microsoft and Symantec have been long-time industry partners, committed to delivering the best experience for our customers," said Kim Akers, general manager, Unified Communications, Microsoft Corp. "E-mail is a mission-critical application for businesses today, and Symantec's Enterprise Messaging Management solutions will help provide Exchange Server 2007 customers with greater efficiency, shorter migration time and protection against the loss of confidential data."
Symantec Enterprise Messaging Management solutions improve the security and manageability of Exchange Server 2007 in three distinct ways:
-- Increases Efficiency: Symantec Enterprise Messaging Management
solutions increase efficiency by blocking spam, eliminating viruses and
archiving e-mails to other purpose-built storage systems. Employing more
than 20 spam-prevention techniques, Symantec Mail Security 8300 Series
reduces the amount of e-mail processed through Exchange Server 2007 by
eliminating spam before it enters the gateway. With Symantec Enterprise
Vault, customers can archive e-mail from Exchange Server to second-tier
storage while providing seamless access to archived messages.
-- Eases Migration: Symantec Enterprise Vault enables organizations to
proactively archive a large percentage of mailbox content prior to
migration, leaving only the small amount of "live" mailbox data to be
migrated. This helps ease the overall migration process while maintaining
messaging service levels.
-- Protects Against Data Leakage: Together Symantec Mail Security 8300
Series and Symantec Enterprise Vault enable companies to effectively
enforce message retention and confidentiality policies. With its content
control modules, Symantec Mail Security 8300 Series helps ensure
confidential corporate data doesn't leave the organization. Additionally,
Symantec Enterprise Vault offers a flexible framework for analyzing e-mail
in transit (properties, content, etc.), which allows the solution to
make "intelligent" archiving decisions, such as block, quarantine, journal,
tag, warn, etc., based on the content of the message.
Symantec Mail Security 8300 Series offers integrated anti-spam, antivirus, and extensive content filtering technologies to help organizations protect against data leakage while ensuring compliance with external regulations and internal corporate policies related to e-mail content. A new Premium Content Control add-on subscription extends basic content filtering capabilities to help organizations mitigate risks associated with data leakage and comply with industry regulations such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX).
Symantec Enterprise Vault, the market-leading archiving solution, helps reduce storage costs and simplify messaging management by enabling organizations to effectively store, manage and discover information held in collaboration systems. Managing more than 7.8 million mailboxes for more than 4,000 customers worldwide, Symantec Enterprise Vault's powerful built-in search and discovery capabilities are complemented by specialized client applications for greater corporate governance, risk management and legal protection.
Symantec Enterprise Vault also specifically extends some of the new capabilities around storage management and compliance that are built into Exchange Server 2007. For example, during migration customers can integrate their "legacy" PST data distributed on laptops, desktops and servers, and Symantec Enterprise Vault's best-in-class PST location, migration and "eradication" functionality can help simplify this effort.
