Sunbelt Software's Messaging Ninja Requires One-Half the IT Time to Manage According to Osterman Research

Market Wire, December, 2006

Sunbelt Software, a leading provider of Windows security software , today announced that Sunbelt Messaging Ninja was recently rated among the most manageable and cost-effective messaging management tools by respondents familiar with the messaging software in a survey by Osterman Research. The research shows that Messaging Ninja is rated very highly by users, relative to other email management products with which it competes, and Ninja can be managed at a lower cost per user than other email management systems.

The survey and white paper, "A Comparison of Leading Messaging Management Tools," prepared for Sunbelt by Osterman Research, asked IT professionals to rate five leading messaging systems based on their experience with the products and included Barracuda Spam Firewall, GFI MailEssentials, McAfee GroupShield for Microsoft Exchange, and Symantec Brightmail. The research reveals that Ninja is easier to manage, has excellent anti-spam functionality, and is rated highest as 'extremely reliable.'

"We asked users of five leading messaging management systems to rate their systems on a variety of parameters," said Michael Osterman, president of Osterman Research. "Messaging Ninja fared very well in our research, scoring high ratings for ease of use, improvement in spam capture efficiency over time and reliability. Further, Messaging Ninja proved to require fairly minimal IT time investments to manage, yielding low cost of ownership."

The time in person-hours spent deploying Messaging Ninja is 2.3 hours per 1,000 email users versus 7.4 hours for other products, and the time spent managing messaging security for 1,000 email users per week with Messaging Ninja is 1.1 hour versus 2.3 hours for other solutions.

This finding is significant: Messaging Ninja requires one-half of the IT investment time during a typical week to manage, compared to an average of the other systems.

Extending the data in the table above to annual time investments and using a fully burdened annual salary for an IT administrator of $80,000 per year, the research finds Messaging Ninja, for the activities shown above, will have a labor cost of $2.25 per user per year versus $4.50 per user per year for the average of the other systems.

Messaging Ninja, built for Microsoft Exchange, delivers best-of-breed antispam, antivirus and anti-phishing along with powerful attachment filtering, wrapped in a plug-in framework that allows additional security features to be added easily. Messaging Ninja is a true third-generation mail security platform that provides a multi-layered, policy based approach to protecting enterprises against email security threats. It is an extraordinarily powerful, robust security solution, providing comprehensive protection against all email-borne threats.
