Onset Technology's Gadi Mazor Appointed to FCC Committee
Market Wire, January, 2007
Onset Technology, a leading developer of beyond email applications for wireless handsets, announced today that company CEO and President Gadi Mazor has been appointed to the FCC's Commercial Mobile Service Alert Advisory Committee. Pursuant to the WARN Act, the committee will develop and recommend technical standards and protocols for the voluntary transmission of emergency alerts by Commercial Mobile Service (CMS) providers. Mr. Mazor is a developer of software for wireless handheld systems including METAmessage®, which is designed to work with the BlackBerry® wireless platform from Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ: RIMM). Mr. Mazor was nominated to the committee by Congressman Sam Farr (CA-17).
"I am honored to be working with the FCC and the distinguished representatives from both the public and private sectors serving on the CMS Advisory Committee," said Mr. Mazor. "I strongly believe that wireless handhelds can play a major role in addressing emergency communications challenges and look forward to supporting the FCC's efforts in developing the standards needed for a robust National Alert System."
The purpose of the WARN Act (H.R. 5785) is to implement a voluntary National Alert System to provide a public communications system capable of alerting the public on a national, regional, or local basis to emergency situations requiring a public response. The National Alert System will transmit alerts across the greatest possible variety of communications technologies, including digital and analog broadcasts, cable and satellite television, satellite and terrestrial radio, wireless communications, wireline communications, and the Internet to reach the largest portion of the affected population.
