Loftware Connector(R) for SAP(R) Implementations Solves the 'Last Mile' Connectivity Problem
Market Wire, January, 2007
Loftware, Inc., a 20 year leader in flexible and scalable enterprise label output management solutions, today announced availability of its new technology for connecting SAP® enterprise systems to Loftware's Print Server® (LPS) to solve the 'last mile' connectivity problem for SAP customers.
"The most common first encounter we have from our SAP customers is when they discover the 'last mile' problem at the tail-end of an SAP implementation," said Loftware CEO, Eric Anderson. "They call us when they discover they can't immediately print compliant labels out of SAP and that means they cannot go live. People are always underestimating the importance of compliant and customer-centric labeling, but, big or small, if you can't print the right label, you can't ship and if you can't ship, you're not in business."
SAP customers usually drive SAP-derived data to networks of printers. In many cases, there may be hundreds of disparate printers scattered across dozens of networks, located at warehouse and production facilities around the world. Anderson continued, "We solve that 'last mile' integration problem with a seamless software product which is easy for us to implement with any SAP instance, and easy to update and maintain because the Connector is entirely configuration-driven. We give any SAP-enabled business control over their current label output infrastructure and, strategically, a roadmap for future label output technology, such as RFID."
SAP instances do not support native barcode design and management without scripting, which effectively eliminates it as a solution due to the wide variety of labels required and the necessity to manage in real-time differing networks of printers and the inability of every printer to print every compliant label.
"We've had this technology available for Oracle-enabled businesses, including our unique internet-based visibility functionality for command and control, and have now extended this essential functionality to SAP," Anderson said. "Even better, we are configuration-based so there is never any custom code to support. So often we hear from prospects that they can't make changes to their labels because the labels are hard-coded. We eliminate that roadblock as well."
