Smart Card Alliance Brings Advances in Chip Technology to RSA Conference 2007 With Tutorial, Pavilion and Panel

Smart cards are increasingly favored by information technology (IT) professionals to protect company information, the privacy of customer records, and to achieve regulatory compliance. The Smart Card Alliance will explain why at a tutorial at RSA Conference 2007 on Monday, February 5th from 9:00am-3:30pm. RSA attendees will also want to add to their itineraries a stop at booth 1742, the Smart Card Pavilion -- one of the highlights of last year's event -- and the panel discussion on government identity credentialing projects around the world, featuring government and privacy experts including Executive Director Randy Vanderhoof.
Smart Cards in IT Pre-Conference Full-Day Tutorial
Held in three sessions, the "Smart Cards in IT" tutorial returns for the second year to the RSA Conference's extensive pre-conference agenda. The full-day session details smart card applications, middleware and standards developments, and examines several large-scale user case studies on how government and commercial enterprises are deploying millions of smart cards.
Session one includes a market overview of smart cards in secure identification and authentication implementations in government and commercial organizations worldwide, including the U.S. federal government Personal Identity Verification (PIV) card. It will also detail the practical use of digital credentials stored on smart cards. Session two presents some basic rules of privacy and security in systems using secure ID tokens and how innovations in smart card technology applied to IT, such as the .NET card, can take advantage of them. Session three looks at large-scale smart card deployments, including Registered Traveler and Pfizer's Global Identity Services program.

Panel on Government Identity Credentialing Initiatives
Randy Vanderhoof will speak at RSA 2007 as part of a panel of international public and private sector experts on Wednesday, February 7th, beginning at 10:40am in Gold Room 310.
The 70-minute panel, "Government ID Card Initiatives - What Works, What Doesn't?" will cover government identity credentialing projects around the world and address objectives, benefits, obstacles and lessons learned. Joining Vanderhoof on the panel are moderator Shannon Kellogg, director of information security policy, office of government relations, RSA Security, an EMC Corporation; Marie Johnson, chief technology architect, office of the access card, Department Human Services, Australia; Marc Rotenberg, executive director, Electronic Privacy Information Center; and Toby Stevens, director, Enterprise Privacy Group, based in the United Kingdom.
