Market Wire, February, 2007
Vodafone Iceland has selected Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) to deliver an end-to-end IPTV solution to consumers in Iceland.
Ericsson will deliver the full IPTV solution and end-to-end systems integration services to Vodafone Iceland. The integrated solution will be the first step in the evolution toward converged multimedia end-user services based on Ericsson IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS).
Gestur G. Gestsson, CTO, Vodafone Iceland says: "The IPTV system from Ericsson will enable user interaction, for example voting, with traditional TV programs. Together with voice services and the internet over broadband networks, this IPTV solution is a complete Triple Play service. We believe that this gives great advantages for our subscribers."
Mikael Bäckström, President of Ericsson Nordic and Baltics says: "We are proud to deliver and integrate our IPTV solution to Vodafone Iceland. Vodafone Iceland will have our full end-to-end IPTV system in their network and we are exited about this cooperation. This will further strengthen our relationship with Vodafone Iceland."
IPTV is about using an IP-based distribution platform for delivery of digital services to TV screens of any shape or form. The goal is to make all devices - TV, mobile phone and PC - interoperable. By subscribing to Vodafone Iceland's IPTV offering, users will benefit from this interoperability as well as personalization and interactivity. Vodafone Iceland is an Icelandic independent company with a single brand license franchised from the Vodafone Group.
