TCS Triples Short Message Service Center Capacity for Asia-Pacific Region Operator
Market Wire, March, 2007
TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (NASDAQ: TSYS), a leading provider of mission-critical wireless data solutions, today announced the delivery of expanded Short Message Service Center (SMSC) functionality which tripled capacity to an existing Asian-Pacific operator customer.
"TCS developed SMSC software more than 10 years ago and has deployed it in numerous major wireless operator networks since then," said Drew Morin, Chief Technology Officer of TCS. "Year over year, SMS and data services are providing more substantial revenue streams for operators. Our SMSC supports intercarrier messaging and SMS pay-to-park, among other services. This expansion in an Asian-Pacific operator network is a direct result of our continued drive to meet the growth needs of the international messaging market segment in both features and capacity."
TCS' carrier-grade SMSC features the platform capability and performance operators require in one scalable system. In 2006, TCS was responsible for more than 40 billion text messages sent worldwide. The company currently has more than 30 worldwide messaging deployments and was the first to deploy an SMSC that simultaneously supported Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) and Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) protocols. In addition, TCS' smsExpress(TM) application suite supports mobile broadband delivery of text messages over Internet Protocol (IP)-based Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and Evolution Data Optimized (EV-DO) networks. TCS' SMSC supports a variety of protocols, offers five "9s" reliability and facilitates specialized applications such as televoting and intercarrier messaging.
