Scott Sigler's "Ancestor" Skyrockets to Top 10 of Amazon Best-Seller List on First Day of Release
Market Wire, April, 2007
PodShow, Inc., the #1 new media network, delivering thousands of hours of the best in video, audio, music and other killer content to a global audience of millions, today is thrilled to announce the much-anticipated paperback arrival of Scott Sigler's podcast thriller, "Ancestor," as it topped the charts as Amazon's #1 in Sci-Fi, Horror and Genre-Fiction lists. "Ancestor" held the #7 spot on Amazon's best-seller list following only "Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows" in fiction.
PodShow added Sigler to the network's roster during the first-run of "Ancestor" and Sigler's fans have now downloaded more than 3.2 million episodes of his podcast novels, landing him a print publishing deal with Dragon Moon Press.
"Sigler represents the ultimate combination of traditional media talent and new media innovation," said Ron Bloom, CEO and Co Founder, PodShow. "He is a powerful story teller who has almost single-handedly shaped a new format. We are delighted to have helped create this phenomenon and are excited to continue to create new works!"
"Ancestor," a Sci-Fi/Horror novel depicting a human organ bioengineering experiment gone horribly awry, premiered as a weekly podcast novel in late 2005 and stimulated months of mainstream media buzz. During its initial run, "Ancestor" grew by word-of-mouth until Adam Curry, PodShow's President and Co founder, started discussing "Ancestor" episodes on his daily show, "The Daily Source Code," creating the tipping point in adoption that added thousands of new listeners to Sigler's loyal fan base. PodShow has gone on to develop an entire campaign and network around this new format featuring Sigler and other great authors.
"He has gone from producing his show from the coat closet in his home to the top of the charts on Amazon's best-seller list," said Adam Curry, President and Co founder of PodShow. "This is a true new media success story."
By reading the books himself, and giving them away via podcast feeds, Sigler provides a new level of entertainment for fiction fans. They get to know Scott Sigler the author and, through him, the plot and characters. Also, the new media model makes Sigler available 24/7 to his core fans, who call themselves "Junkies" because they are always waiting for their weekly "fix." Sigler directly interacts with his fans, answering emails, IMs, blog comments and voice mails every day.
"It's not just about getting my story in front of as many people as possible," Sigler said. "Podcasting, and specifically the online community of PodShow, enables me to develop a deeper relationship with my audience."
About Scott Sigler ( http://scottsigler.podshow.com )
Scott reinvented book publishing when he released "EarthCore" as the world's first "podcast-only" novel. Released in twenty weekly episodes, "EarthCore" combined aspects of old time serialized radio fiction with new media innovation and a new phenomenon was born.
His next podcast novel, "Ancestor," was the world's most popular "podcast-only" novel, now available in print through Amazon.com. It was the #1 literary podcast on iTunes, and on every podcast index including Podcast Alley. "Ancestor" and "EarthCore" earned #1 and #2 spots on the Horror Best Seller chart respectively, and the "Ancestor" buzz caused Sirius Satellite to pick up the novel as part of Adam Curry's PodShow All Star lineup on Sirius, making it the first audiobook carried on the satellite network.
Combined with Scott's other two podcast novels, "Infection" and "The Rookie," Scott's fans have downloaded over 3 million files of his fiction.
Scott's innovative use of technology puts him at the forefront of modern-day publishing, and has garnered brand-name exposure among hundreds of thousands of fiction fans and technology buffs. He's been covered in the New York Times, NPR, Washington Post, Business Week, CBC Radio Canada, CNet, The Book Standard, MacWorld and the nationally syndicated radio show The Dragon Page.
