Cloudmark and MailChannels Partner to Deliver Traffic Control With Cloudmark Authority
Market Wire, May, 2007
Cloudmark, Inc., the global leader in carrier-grade messaging security, and MailChannels Corporation, a developer of next-generation email infrastructure protection solutions, today announced a new offering called Traffic Control(TM) with Cloudmark Authority(TM). A multi-layered solution for mid-tier Internet service providers (ISPs), Traffic Control with Cloudmark Authority combines MailChannels' connection management technology which regulates the flow of suspicious emails at the network's edge with Cloudmark Authority's industry-leading accuracy in identifying and blocking spam, viruses and phishing. Traffic Control with Cloudmark Authority dramatically reduces the overall volume of messaging abuse draining network resources and clogging up subscriber inboxes.
"We are committed to providing our more than 20,000 subscribers with the best messaging security available today," said Frank Wiles, IT manager at Sunflower Broadband. "MailChannels Traffic Control helped us reduce the volume of abusive messages we accept at the network gateway, enabling us to significantly reduce the volume of spam, phishing and viruses entering our email infrastructure. With the addition of Cloudmark Authority, we have experienced a 75-percent reduction in customer complaint incidents compared to when we used PureMessage from Sophos. The result is higher customer satisfaction and a reduction in overall server load and message storage on our system."
MailChannels Traffic Control uses proprietary Email Connection Management techniques at the network edge to detect suspicious traffic and reduce its volume while guaranteeing resource availability for legitimate senders. Suspicious connections are throttled, discouraging spammers and botnet operators who want to deliver the greatest amount of email in the shortest time and encouraging them to move on to unprotected hosts. MailChannels Traffic Control provides a new layer of email infrastructure protection, reducing up to 90 percent of abusive traffic before it needs to be queued for a filter and leading to a significantly reduced load on mail servers. Traffic control and shaping does not, however, eliminate the need for effective content filtering, which prevents messaging abuse from being delivered to email users.
Cloudmark Authority leverages Advanced Message Fingerprinting(TM) technology based on innovative, high-performance algorithms and real-time, corroborated feedback from the Cloudmark Global Threat Network. Inbound and outbound messages are checked against an in-memory cache of verified fingerprints that is updated every 45 seconds, delivering security intelligence and filtering at all points in the messaging infrastructure and providing customers with greater operational efficiency. In just the past year, seven of the top ten ISPs/carriers in North America selected Cloudmark Authority to protect millions of consumers from spam, phishing and virus threats. With this multi-layered solution, mid-tier ISPs receive the same level of protection as the world's largest ISPs.
"ISPs are looking for ways to provide customers with added levels of protection that ensure user satisfaction while also optimizing the use of system resources and legacy infrastructure investments," said Ken Simpson, CEO of MailChannels. "Easily deployed on existing mail transfer agents (MTAs), Traffic Control with Cloudmark Authority offers ISPs edge traffic shaping together with the most accurate and efficient message filtering available. Together, MailChannels and Cloudmark are offering mid-market service providers like Sunflower Broadband with the additional layers of messaging protection needed to combat spam and other messaging threats without new infrastructure requirements."
"Cloudmark is rapidly becoming the de facto solution for messaging infrastructure vendors looking to integrate carrier-grade content filtering into their service provider offerings," said Jacinta Tobin, vice president of Worldwide Sales and Business Development at Cloudmark. "Traffic Control with Cloudmark Authority is designed to protect service providers now and in the future, because it adapts naturally to the changing behavior of spammers and the evolving nature of messaging abuse. Together with MailChannels, Cloudmark is helping to improve and protect the quality of service offered by mid-tier service providers to their subscribers."
