Dogster, Inc. Launches Pet-Focused Applications on Facebook(R) Platform
Market Wire, May, 2007
Facebook f8 Event -- Dogster, Inc., the fun-loving, pet-loving architects behind the Dogster.com and Catster.com online communities, today announced at Facebook's f8 event a pair of applications built on the Facebook Platform -- a platform that enables companies and developers to build applications for the Facebook website.
"The Facebook Platform creates an ecosystem for developers to build applications that deeply integrate into Facebook and use its social graph," said Mark Zukerberg, founder and CEO of Facebook. "By enabling developers to make applications within Facebook, we're working together to create a better utility for millions of people."
Dogster, Inc.'s versatile application configures for both its Dogster and Catster properties -- allowing animal lovers on Facebook to proudly tailor their space with eye-catching and personalized images focused around their love of dogs and cats.
-- The Dogster Rescue Application allows Facebook users to feature photos of adoptable pets in pounds and shelters around the country that are in need of a good home.
-- The Dogster Cute Application allows a user to showcase photos of the cutest dogs and puppies on the web right on their Facebook page.
The applications for Catster offer mirrored functionality for the cat-loving Facebook member. Both applications allow animal lovers to display their passion and personality and, in the case of the Rescue Applications, help animals in danger of being euthanized if they do not find a home.
"I am very happy to be part of Facebook's f8 event," said Dogster Founder and CEO Ted Rheingold. "Dogs and cats are family members in two-thirds of all U.S. households. It's only natural for Facebook members to be able to show off one of the most important parts of their lives. Plus, the fact people can now use their Facebook network to find loving families for homeless pets is what really makes this opportunity so unique."
Facebook is a social utility that offers an efficient way for people to stay connected with their friends and the people around them. Facebook users communicate and share information through the social graph, the network of connections and relationships between people. With more than 24 million active users, Facebook is the sixth-most trafficked website in the United States.
