Symantec Finds Online Banking the #1 Internet Activity That Makes Lives Easier
Market Wire, August, 2007
Consumers rank online banking as the number one Internet activity that makes their lives easier, according to a recent Harris Interactive poll(1). As online banking continues to become an integral part of people's lives, Symantec (NASDAQ: SYMC) has joined forces with online banking leader, Bank of America, to offer a 90-day version of Norton Internet Security and discounted subscriptions to help consumers protect their computers against threats from viruses, spyware, phishing scams and other online threats.
According to the Harris poll, 86 percent noted that online banking saves them as much as five hours weekly and more than one-fifth (21 percent) of respondents say online banking has made it unnecessary for them to ever visit a bank in person. With Norton Internet Security, consumers have a powerful and award-winning security solution to help protect their computers and the information stored in them from Internet threats and risks, as well as data loss, allowing users to freely engage in online activities they care about without worry.
In addition, the poll also revealed that when it comes to advice or assistance with keeping their personal information secure, consumers ranked their financial institutions (54 percent) as the first source they would turn to followed by software security companies, such as Symantec (29 percent). Bank of America's online banking customers can now access Norton solutions, to help them be more informed, more secure and more at ease with their online security.
"Consumers are using the Internet to make each day of their lives easier and this research demonstrates that online banking -- more than any other activity -- makes a significant impact," said Vince Steckler, senior vice president, worldwide consumer sales, Symantec. "With the increased activity online, it is important that consumers have a comprehensive security solution, such as Norton Internet Security, to safeguard their valuable financial and personal data on their PCs and help give them a safe and secure online experience."
"As a leader in online banking security, we want to ensure that consumers have the most secure experience possible," said Lance Drummond, e-Commerce executive for Bank of America. "In addition to the security measures and Zero Liability Guarantee we already offer through Online Banking, we want to provide customers with the tools that help protect their computers -- so they have greater peace of mind with all their online transactions."
