Handal & Associates Successfully Negotiates a Patent Licensing Agreement Between the DVD6C Licensing Association and the Tonic Group

Market Wire, August, 2007

Handal & Associates, as lead counsel to the Tonic Group of Companies, has successfully negotiated and secured a DVD6C licensing agreement with the 6CDVD Consortium for Tonic and its manufacturing affiliates. The DVD licensing agreement permits the Tonic Group of companies to manufacture DVD player products under a license to a pool of patents owned by Toshiba Corporation (PINKSHEETS: TOSBF), Mitsubishi, Hitachi, JVC, Panasonic, Samsung, Sanyo, Warner Brothers, and Sharp. The License Agreement, on standard terms and conditions, also resolves all pending legal disputes raised by Toshiba in the pending International Trade Commission Investigation as well as in the Northern District Federal Court action instituted by Toshiba.

"The addition of a DVD6C manufacturer's license agreement in addition to our other DVD licenses positions us as a fully licensed manufacturer of DVD players and related products," said Ida Chan, Group General Counsel. "This is a positive move for the company, our customers and our shareholders."

Toshiba Corporation filed a lawsuit in April of 2007, accusing several companies of violating patents related to DVD technology. In May of 2007, the ITC initiated its own investigation into the sale of DVD-related products which allegedly infringe Toshiba's patents. "We expect all litigation to be terminated quickly as the attorney's work through the paperwork," Chan said.
