Tidal Extends Application Performance Management for SAP Solutions to Deliver Visibility Into NetWeaver
Market Wire, October, 2007
Tidal Software(TM), a leading provider of application scheduling and performance management software, today announced general availability of Tidal(TM) Horizon(TM) for SAP® Solutions 1.8 and Tidal(TM) Transaction Analyzer 1.8. This complete application performance management solution now provides real time and historic analysis for NetWeaver(TM) solutions by providing deep visibility into trouble-spots in the Java, ABAP, and database tiers of the SAP NetWeaver platform.
The Tidal application performance management solution provides real time analysis of SAP performance problems through its Application Performance Automation and captures 100% of all SAP workload activity for detailed historic analysis to support a range of performance, business activity, and compliance reports. This release expands those capabilities to cover the full scope of the NetWeaver platform as well as provide expanded database coverage and additional automated analysis capabilities. The result is a solution that reduces further the time required for problem detection and resolution, delivers detailed reporting on transaction trending and analysis, and provides complete visibility into critical business processes.
"The NetWeaver Portal can now be less of a 'black box' to administrators. They can quickly determine if a performance problem is in the portal or somewhere further back in an SAP landscape and the root cause of that problem," said Rod Butters, senior vice president of worldwide marketing for Tidal Software. "This also improves collaboration by providing a complete and sharable view of all monitoring data and problem analysis for developers, Basis administrators, and DBAs."
Horizon for SAP Solutions discerns complex performance problems in the NetWeaver portal all the way through to the database in real time. Now using the low-overhead JMX API, Horizon captures Java metrics from the NetWeaver Portal server and correlates them with the corresponding activity in ABAP on the SAP ERP system. For example, Horizon can investigate a slow responding iView while it is executing and provide operational teams with detailed information regarding the location and cause of slow performance. This capability can cut the mean-time-to resolution of a performance problem up to 90%.
Tidal Transaction Analyzer completes the picture, providing detailed historic tracking of each transaction to simplify everything from help desk troubleshooting to compliance audits. Through this detailed and 100% complete capture of transaction activity, administrators can eliminate the significant manual effort required in service level trending and analysis. Transaction Analyzer can then provide drill down from the high level service metrics to individual transaction level detail. Reports can also be produced showing everything from business activity for management analysis to transaction user, group, location detail for compliance and can be delivered automatically and securely through a self-service UI.
"Utilizing advanced monitoring tools to achieve proactive SAP management has been important in our environment," said Brian Turner, SAP Basis Manager at Remington Arms Company. "Our SAP Basis team works to deliver quality service from a very lean operation. But being cost effective doesn't mean that service level objectives can be compromised in the process. With help from Tidal's Horizon product, our Basis team has been able to meet service level and cost objectives and also provide positive benefits for the operation of the business on our systems."
Tidal Horizon for SAP Solutions 1.8 and Tidal Transaction Analyzer 1.8 offer the following key new features:
-- JMX Based - Now uses the low-overhead, open JMX standard interface to
access metrics on the portal server.
-- Zero Foreign Code - Monitoring is agent-less, meaning no foreign code
is required on the NetWeaver Portal or any other portion of the SAP
landscape.
-- Multi-Tier Approach - Access to all tiers has been extended to include
the NetWeaver Application Server, supporting analysis over all relevant
tiers for each SAP transaction.
-- DB2 Support - Now supports the capture of DB2 metrics for both real
time and historic analysis and reporting.
-- New Reports - Offers new reports which extend the value for audit and
compliance including: inactive users, audit users activity, audit
transaction usage, and more.
Tidal Horizon for SAP Solutions 1.8 and Transaction Analyzer 1.8 are generally available today directly from Tidal Software. Pricing varies based on the size of the environment. The real time and historic solutions are also available separately.
