TCS Receives "Innovator of the Year" Award
Market Wire, October, 2007
TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (NASDAQ: TSYS), a global leader in mission-critical wireless communications, today announced it has been honored as an "Innovator of the Year" by the Maryland Daily Record. The Innovator of the Year awards program acknowledges Maryland residents and companies that have had a positive effect on their business, industry or community. TCS received this award for its efforts in assisting Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPS) throughout the state of Maryland to successfully deploy VoIP E9-1-1 call routing and delivery service.
TCS' technology innovation allows VoIP device users to make 9-1-1 emergency phone calls from any location, connecting them with the appropriate PSAP to respond to the caller's request for help and delivering the caller's currently registered location. The service provides a comprehensive, highly responsive, future-proof public safety solution that VoIP callers need and expect. These callers can now receive the same level of emergency services as traditional landline and wireless callers.
"I am pleased to accept this award for technology innovation on behalf of the entire TCS team," said Maurice B. Tosé, Chairman, President and CEO for TCS. "At TCS we strive to bring new and unparalleled mission-critical wireless communications technology solutions to our customers. By fostering an environment that rewards creativity and innovation, TCS is well positioned to provide new and compelling products and services for many years to come."
TCS successfully completed the first-ever wireless E9-1-1 call over ten years ago in the state of Pennsylvania. Realizing the similarities between wireless E9-1-1 and VoIP E9-1-1, TCS provided details to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) about a proposed nationwide implementation of the VoIP E9-1-1 model. TCS has deployed wireless and VoIP E9-1-1 service to U.S. operators, routing and delivering over 40 million emergency calls every year nationwide.
Winners were selected by an external panel of judges. A dinner recognizing the innovators and announcing the top innovator in Maryland took place on October 10th, 2007. Winners will also be featured in the Maryland Daily Record on October 12th.
