Dubois Agrinovation Inc.: 100% Biodegradable & Compostable Mulch Film "BioTelo" Offers an Innovative Solution to the Agricultural Plastic Waste Challenge
Market Wire, October, 2007
Over the years, in order for growers to stay competitive, they used plastic mulch films to control weeds, to achieve early growth, and better yield. The quantity of mulch films dramatically increased and consequently the disposal of these plastic mulch films represented a real challenge!
Always searching for innovative products, Dubois Agrinovation introduced two years ago a film that had the same properties as a traditional plastic film without the negative impact on the environment: BioTelo, a 100% biodegradable and compostable mulch film exclusively made of Mater-Bi, a corn starch based raw material (without any genetically modified elements). Microorganisms in the soil break down the film and transform it in water, carbon dioxide, and biomass. The total biodegradability of Mater-Bi is certified compostable and is IFOAM approved for use by European organic farms.
All of our conventional and organic growers who tried BioTelo are extremely satisfied; in fact, they purchased more rolls than the previous year! According to the growers, the film appears more fragile at the installation but it offers the same performance as a polyethylene mulch film. It also looks great on the soil and at the end, they don't have to spend time, effort, and money removing it. It is more expensive than a regular mulch film but after totaling up their expenses, efforts, and time related to the removal of plastic film, the cost is about the same.
For the last four years, Dr. Anu Rangarajan, from the Department of Horticulture at Cornell University, studied Mater-Bi mulch films. She was pleased with the results. In fact, she will be presenting her research at the New England Vegetable and Fruit Conference in Manchester, N.H. on Thursday, December 13, 2007. Her report can also be viewed on Cornell's website at http://www.vegetables.cornell.edu
Sensitive to the ecology, BioTelo is the solution for the next generation of growers!
We are currently looking for dealers in the USA!
