StillSecure Releases Cobia Software Developer's Kit
Market Wire, October, 2007
StillSecure®, creator of secure network infrastructure software, today announced the Cobia(TM) Software Developer's Kit (SDK). Unlike proprietary network infrastructure solutions, StillSecure has created the first truly open network infrastructure platform with Cobia and its SDK. Developers and ISVs can now build upon open, standards-based networking and security software components. The entire Cobia community is helping to usher in a new era in networking by utilizing the power of open source software based on off-the-shelf hardware.
"Through Cobia's open, modular architecture we are hoping to foster innovation and fundamentally change the way that people implement networking and security applications," said Alan Shimel, Chief Strategy Officer at StillSecure. "The Cobia SDK means developers have well-defined programming interfaces as well as the support resources needed to develop new, innovative applications that operate on Cobia."
The Cobia SDK allows third parties to quickly, easily, and inexpensively develop modules that extend the benefit of the Cobia platform. It combines the flexibility of open source Cobia software with the power and productivity of well-developed APIs and other developer resources. Full documentation and detailed examples for building both the front-end user interface and back-end components enable even novice developers to take advantage of the power and flexibility available in the Cobia platform.
"The Cobia SDK provides an excellent environment for building integrated modules on the Cobia platform. By offering a framework for module inter-activity, there are a vast number of exciting development possibilities," said Perryn Gordon, independent software developer. "It's great to be part of a community that's rallying behind such an innovative product that will change how networking and security is managed as we know it today."
"StillSecure is raising the open source bar by providing a SDK to help companies like ours to rapidly bring products to market on the Cobia platform," said Mike McCauley, Chief Technologist, Open System Consultants. "By porting our Radiator Radius Server to Cobia we provide users with an easy option for implementing the authentication process alongside other critical networking and security functions like routing and firewalling."
About Cobia and the SDK
The Cobia(TM) Unified Network Platform(TM) contains the routing, security, and core network systems needed to implement a network. Cobia's modular design and web-based management interface allow users to implement the complete network or a subset by tailoring the Cobia platform to the needs of each network. The Cobia platform is a community source application that is delivered as software and installed on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) x86 hardware or as a virtual appliance. This allows users to take advantage of the price, performance, and scalability of general computing hardware as well as advances in virtualization.
In addition to providing the full Cobia source code, the Cobia SDK empowers developers to build new software modules and products rapidly. Partners can leverage Cobia's modular, platform-based approach to develop their own products and/or bring products to market faster and easier than traditional methods of software distribution (for more information: http://www.stillsecure.com/news_events/prdetails.php?id=374 ).
Pricing and availability
StillSecure offers the Cobia software under a dual license: a public community license and a commercial distribution license. The Cobia platform can be downloaded immediately at http://cobia.stillsecure.com free of charge under the StillSecure Community License for installation on an x86 host or as a virtual machine (Linux or Windows). A commercial distribution license is required for partners, ISVs and individuals whose intended use of Cobia is not permitted under the StillSecure Community License.
