Reminder - Win a Seat at the Air Force Reserve Jet Car Race!
Market Wire, October, 2007
If you're lucky enough to win a "Ride to the Runway," you will find yourself feet away from the Air Force Reserve Jet Car as it pumps out smoke and flames, then pulls to a dead stop with10,000 horsepower just waiting. Then, as the plane comes in low and oh so close, Jet Car Driver Bill Braack, releases the power and the race is on. In a few bewildering seconds, you feel the force, the heat and the thrill of being a part of something unique -- a once in a lifetime experience as the Jet Car on the ground races a plane coming in "hot."
The Air Force Reserve Jet Car will be racing at the Randolph Air Force Base Air Show, San Antonio, TX, on November 3 and 4. Each day, one visitor will win a "Ride to the Runway." To register, drop by the Air Force Reserve Display before noon, fill out a card and be present for the drawing at 12:15 PM daily. Those entering must be 18 or older.
"Watching the race from the runway is the next best thing to driving the car. Of course, watching from the flight line is always fun," said Bill Braack, Air Force Reserve veteran. "I have been working with the Jet Car Team for about ten years, and last year, when I took over the driving duties from Jet Car inventor Scott Hammack, was just incredible. It was better than any amusement park ride. To feel that amazing machine perform is thrilling every time I'm driving."
The Air Force Reserve Jet Car is powered by a Westinghouse J34-48 jet engine that accelerates from zero to 400 mph in about eight seconds, and that is just about the limit of this machine, which is the fastest Jet Car in the Air Show Industry.
"If we pushed any further any longer, the car would begin to become airborne and the tires would probably start to shred. It takes about 2,000 feet to accelerate and, once I pull the parachute and cut the engine, it takes about 2,000 feet to stop. The force is so great at top speed that we destroy a pilot chute at the end of every run. The pilot chute takes the brunt of the force before the main chute is deployed," said Bill Braack.
The Jet Car Team is proudly supported by the Air Force Reserve, a team of more than 70,000 men and women, who serve to keep America safe.
