Sarraf Gentile LLP Announces Lawsuit Against WellCare Health Plans, Inc.
Market Wire, November, 2007
A class action lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida on behalf of investors who purchased the common stock of WellCare Health Plans, Inc. ("WellCare" or the "Company") (NYSE: WCG) during the period May 8, 2006 through October 24, 2007, inclusive (the "Class Period"). The complaint alleges violations of the federal securities laws, including Section 10(b) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934.
WellCare Health Plans, Inc., purports to provide managed care services exclusively for government-sponsored healthcare programs. The complaint alleges that during the Class Period, defendants misled investors by issuing false and misleading statements relating to WellCare's revenue, profitability, and internal controls. On October 24, 2007, state and federal law-enforcement agents armed with a federal search warrant raided WellCare's headquarters in Tampa, Florida. The raid included agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Health and Human Services Department and the Florida attorney general's Medicaid fraud unit. Immediately following news of the raid, the New York Stock Exchange halted trading of WellCare's common stock. When shares resumed trading on October 25, 2007, the stock opened at approximately $64.00 per share and dropped to $42.67 by the close of trading. Between October 24, 2007 and the close of trading the following day, the Company's stock dropped nearly 65%, on heavy trading volume.
