Recursion Software Launches Voyager Edge 6.2 With IPV6 Support
Market Wire, November, 2007
Recursion Software, Inc., an innovative provider of intelligent middleware and distributed computing solutions, announced today the release of Voyager Edge 6.2 , a next-generation communications framework that brings powerful multiplatform peer-to-peer and peer-to-group communications and intelligence to wireless applications. New features of this release include a performance upgrade with messaging up to 50-percent faster than Remote Message Invocation (RMI) as well as bidirectional communication (BiDi) for added security. The new version also provides support for Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6), which the U.S. government is requiring for support of government-purchased software by 2008. Voyager Edge is currently used in several projects for Department of Defense (DoD).
Voyager Edge is flexible, scalable, interoperable middleware that turns handheld devices into servers that are transactional and carry intelligence apart from a centralized enterprise server. With the addition of BiDi, devices running Voyager Edge can communicate bidirectionally with other devices and servers within their device community utilizing secure firewalls. Additionally, new performance enhancements improve messaging up to 50-percent faster than RMI makes Voyager the choice for developers looking to improve application performance.
The DoD is using Voyager Edge in its Joint Forces Command (JFCOM) Joint After Action Review (JAAR) for its interopera bility between multiple mobile OSs (Windows Mobile, Android, Linux, JavaFX and some Symbian devices) , and for its unique peer-to-peer and peer-to-group real-time messaging capabilities. Voyager Edge 6.2 was announced at the 2007 Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) conference in Orlando, FL where Recursion Software is demonstrating a prototype application for JFCOM.
"Support for IPv6 available with Voyager 6.2 allows us to continue our successful relationship with JFCOM," said Bob DeAnna, chief technology officer for Recursion Software. "Since early 2006, JFCOM has used Voyager Edge as the communications protocol for the JAAR. With the addition of a working prototype, we are demonstrating collaboration and performance unrivaled by any other solution. Following the JAAR 2008 roadmap, we plan to scale Voyager Edge down to create intelligent sensor networks and we are already well on our way to achieving this goal."
The JFCOM Joint Training and T&E Mobile Evaluation (JTEME; pronounced J-TEAM) prototype enables the DoD to perform real-time information exchange during training exercises. From a centralized command center questionnaires can be sent wirelessly to soldiers in the field via ruggedized PDAs. Responses are immediately distributed back to the command center as well as to all other PDAs participating in the exercise, and new questionnaires can be created and distributed based on real-time analysis. Peer-to-Peer and peer-to-group chat sessions also enable participants to drill down into additional detail. Running Voyager Edge on these devices enables them to communicate in true peer-to-peer fashion, eliminating a single point of failure inherent to traditional client-server communications. Furthermore, Voyager Edge enables unparalleled reliability on PDAs so that questionnaires once received can continue to process if a wireless connection is severed or during radio silence. When a connection is available once again, the responses are distributed to the group as if no network outage has occurred.
Additional updates available in Voyager Edge 6.2 include the ability to monitor and manage Voyager system components via JMX-MBeans and JMX-compliant consoles (jconsole, mc4j), as well as UDP support in addition to existing TCP-IP support.
