Dominic Ho Elected to Underwriters Laboratories' Board of Trustees
Market Wire, December, 2007
Underwriters Laboratories (UL) today announced that Dominic Ho has been elected to UL's board of trustees. Mr. Ho most recently served as Chairman of the worldwide consulting firm KPMG in China and Hong Kong.
After obtaining his degrees at the University of Houston he joined KPMG U.S. in 1975 and became a partner in 1985. Mr. Ho led KPMG's China initiative and helped expand its presence to more than 4,000 staff in China and 1,500 in Hong Kong by the time he retired in 2007. At that time, the firm occupied more than a 40 percent market share of the top 50 major public companies by market capitalization in China and Hong Kong.
"We are very enthusiastic about the guidance Dominic's expertise offers as we continue our long-term global growth strategy," said Fred Marcon, chairman of UL's board of trustees. "His deep understanding of China's presence in the global economy will only further our organizational goal of promoting public safety worldwide."
Mr. Ho began his career at KPMG as an auditor and his duties soon covered a broad range of industries. He eventually became KPMG's business specialist, advising China's offshore oil industry in the formation of China's taxation system and assisting foreign companies with their investments in China. During his career, he helped China format its privatization program, including the establishment of the China Security Regulatory Commission (CSRC). He also actively participated in taking the first initial public offering in the Peoples Republic of China to the New York and Hong Kong stock exchanges simultaneously.
Mr. Ho is a member of the American Institute of Accountants and a member of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He served as a member of the Corruption Prevention Advisory Committee of Independent Commission against Corruption and a member of the Insurance Advisory Committee, both in Hong Kong.
