Emergis Brings Health Expertise to Canadian Forces Health Information System Project

Market Wire, December, 2007

Emergis Inc. (TSX: EME) today announced its contribution to the successful implementation of a dental electronic health record (EHR) system at 21 Canadian Forces clinics across Canada. Emergis was responsible for the business analysis and on-site implementation of the system, as well as training and support for the 500 dentists and dental clinic staff who use it.

The implementation of the dental EHR system is the latest milestone in the Canadian Forces Health Information System (CFHIS) project, which was awarded to Lockheed Martin Canada and for which Emergis is a subcontractor. Emergis was selected by Lockheed Martin Canada for its expertise in health care and its proven track record in implementing solutions that are well suited to the needs of health care providers and their specific work environments.

"Emergis is uniquely positioned in health care," said Mark Groper, Executive Vice-President, Health?Public Sector. "Because a number of our employees have first-hand experience as health care providers, we are able to offer consulting services that ensure the technology is adapted to various health care settings and truly contribute to improving care delivery. We are proud that Lockheed Martin Canada has chosen us to work with them on such a critical project for the Canadian Forces."

The dental EHR system allows dentists and dental clinic staff to deliver enhanced care to Canadian Forces members by granting them faster access to their patients' dental files and accelerating the exchange of information between authorized care givers anywhere, anytime within the Canadian Forces clinics.

The dental EHR system is part of the second phase of the CFHIS project. The initial phase of the project, which was completed in 2004, involved the implementation of patient registration and scheduling modules. Currently, ancillary systems such as laboratory, diagnostic imaging and pharmacy, as well as results review are being rolled out to the Canadian Forces medical clinics across the country. Next steps include the deployment of clinical notes and clinical order entry modules.

Once completed, the CFHIS project will be the largest fully integrated longitudinal health record in Canada. It will allow the 2,500 Canadian Forces health care providers to share patient information securely and coordinate care for the 85,000 regular and reserve forces personnel worldwide.
