Sunset Gower Studios to Honor Academy Award Filmmaker Stanley Kramer

Sunset Gower Studios will honor Academy Award-winning producer-director Stanley Kramer by dedicating its new state-of-the-art screening facility as the Stanley Kramer Theater, it was announced jointly today by Howard Stern, managing partner of Hudson Capital, new owner of the studio, and Stanley Kramer's widow, producer Karen Kramer.

A special celebrity-media noon dedication luncheon will be held at Sunset Gower's famed Filmmaker's Courtyard late January or early February, 2008. Immediately following the luncheon, guests will be taken to the Stanley Kramer Theater to see the new facility and view a short compilation of Mr. Kramer's films produced on the lot, then known as Columbia Pictures.

Stanley Kramer began his illustrious career on the Sunset Gower lot as a production assistant for Columbia Pictures renowned assistant director/director Abby Singer. A number of Stanley's celebrated films which were produced on the lot include "The Wild Ones," "Ship of Fools," "The Member of the Wedding," and "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner," all of which are part of a 40th anniversary Sony DVD box set of Kramer productions.

The groundbreaking "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" love story will also be released as a stand-alone Sony DVD, executive produced by Karen Kramer, featuring introduction tributes by Tom Brokaw, Steven Spielberg, Quincy Jones, Harrison Ford, and former vice-president Al Gore.

The hallowed screening room, originally constructed in 1921 as part of Columbia Pictures, has undergone a complete wall to wall transformation, outfitted with state-of-the-art technical equipment and the latest in production and sound apparatus, according to studio VP, sales and marketing, Terri Melkonian.

We have upgraded all of our production and post-production facilities, completely refurbished the executive and staff offices, and added additional on-site parking."

Among the many classic and memorable early films that have called Sunset Gower home are "It Happened One Night" (Clark Gable), "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" (James Stewart), "Born Yesterday" (Judy Holliday), "On the Waterfront" (Marlon Brando), "Picnic" (William Holden), "From Here to Eternity" (Burt Lancaster, Frank Sinatra), "Lawrence of Arabia" (Peter O'Toole), and "Funny Girl" (Barbara Streisand).
