Pet Entertainment Products Incorporated: Boston Red Sox Pitcher's Dog Gets DVDs for Christmas
Market Wire, December, 2007
Some Canadian entrepreneurs are taking measures so that history does not repeat itself at Boston Red Sox pitcher Jonathan Papelbon's house. A piece of history was destroyed there, when Papelbon's dog ate the baseball used to strike out the final batter of the 2007 World Series.
Papelbon's dog, Boss, loves to play with baseballs. When the canine spotted the pitcher's coveted collectors item sitting on the counter, it was "game over". The final ball of the 2004 series, Boston's first world title in 86 years, is displayed in the hall of fame. However, Sox catcher Jason Varitek tucked the 2007 ball in his pocket and gave it to Papelbon as a gift.
Pet Entertainment Products Incorporated has sent the Major League reliever a set of DVDs called "Your Dog Companion". The series of discs was scientifically researched and developed by one of North America's leading dog behaviorists, Dr. Stanley Coren. They are designed to keep dogs from suffering boredom and separation anxiety that lead to mischievous and destructive behaviour.
A spokesperson for the company explains, "When we heard about Boss's indiscretion, we thought, 'here is a classic case of a dog who needs our DVD'. A major league pitcher is on the road most of the year, so Boss may suffer quite a bit of loneliness, boredom and anxiety."
The company hopes to get the DVD's to Papelbon in time for Christmas and well before baseball spring training begins in February. "Your Dog Companion" is available at www.thedogdvd.com .
