Universal Detection Technology's MRSA Detection System Featured in the January Issue of Microbe Magazine

Universal Detection Technology ( www.udetection.com ) (OTCBB: UDTT) (FRANKFURT: PO8), a developer of early- warning monitoring technologies to protect people from bioterrorism and other infectious health threats and provider of counter-terrorism consulting and training services, announced today that the January issue of Microbe Magazine has published an article on a MRSA Detection system that UDTT plans to develop based on the technology that is under exclusive license to UDTT from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) Office of Technology Transfer and is protected under a provisional patent. The technology had been developed by NASA's JPL and has applications in NASA's Planetary Protection Program.

Microbe is the news magazine of the American Society for Microbiology, and is published monthly in print and online. It keeps members and other interested individuals informed of Society activities, meetings, educational and employment opportunities, new publications and national political developments of interest to the microbiological community. The current topics and features sections provide information about current scientific developments.

According to a November 2007 paper published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, the MRSA microbe, a strain of a once harmless staph bacterium that has become invulnerable to first-line antibiotics, is responsible for more than 94,000 serious infections and nearly 19,000 deaths each year. Recent reports also indicate the spread of MRSA into the nation's schools. UDTT has no timeframe for the development of a MRSA detection system but feels that when developed, the system can be useful in hospitals and public places.
