Napster Expands Its Music Subscription Service Across New DoCoMo Mobile Phones in Japan
Market Wire, January, 2008
Napster (NASDAQ: NAPS) announced today that the company's mobile music subscription service is available to NTT DoCoMo customers through nine new models of the mobile company's line of music-enabled handsets, the FOMA®705i series. The Microsoft® Windows Media®-branded handsets let DoCoMo customers seamlessly download music directly to their handsets or download music and playlists from their PC to their phones.
The Napster-compatible handsets in the FOMA®705i series from DoCoMo, Japan's largest wireless carrier, boasts the latest features in mobile listening technology. By integrating the user experience of Microsoft Windows® Vista® with the latest-addition mobile phones, DoCoMo customers can manage their music from wherever they are.
"Napster is pleased that more DoCoMo customers can access and enjoy our award-winning mobile subscription service through the new DoCoMo handsets," said Brad Duea, president of Napster. "As we continue our relationship with DoCoMo and expand our service to other carriers around the globe, we look forward to bringing the Napster Mobile experience to music lovers everywhere."
DoCoMo customers who use the new handsets will be able to utilize the same convenient features currently in place for DoCoMo's Napster subscribers, including integrated billing, subscriptions for ringtones, and unlimited over-the-air downloads of full-length tracks.
Napster Mobile is live with nine carriers across Asia, the U.S., and Europe -- DoCoMo, KDDI (Japan), AT&T/Cingular, Dobson, SunCom (U.S.), TMN (Portugal), O2 (Ireland), Swisscom (Switzerland), and Claro (Puerto Rico). In addition to DoCoMo's handset partners in Japan, the world's largest cell phone manufacturers are also providing Napster compatible devices in the U.S. and Europe including Motorola, Nokia, Palm, Samsung, LG, SonyEricsson, HTC and Pantech.
