U.S. Army Dugway Proving Ground Deploys Fortinet Security Systems to Protect New Outdoor Network

Fortinet® -- the pioneer and leading provider of unified threat management (UTM) solutions -- today announced that the U.S. Army Dugway Proving Ground has deployed Fortinet's high-end FortiGate(TM)-5000 series, FortiWiFi(TM)-60B and FortiAnalyzer(TM) to help protect a new wired and wireless outdoor network.

The mission of U.S. Army Dugway Proving Ground is to test U.S. and allied biological & chemical defense systems, perform nuclear biological chemical survivable testing of defense material, provide support to chemical and biological weapons conventions and operate and maintain an installation to support test missions.

Army Dugway Proving Ground (DPG) selected Fortinet appliances to provide robust security for its new wired and wireless outdoor network. In addition, the need for a single appliance with multiple functionalities was critical due to the limited IT staff at DPG. For consideration and deployment of the Fortinet systems, DPG worked closely with Secure Network Innovation, a leading provider of multi-threat security systems that enable secure business communications and deliver the best security, performance and total cost of ownership available.

At the heart of its new security infrastructure solution, DPG deployed Fortinet's FortiGate-5050 carrier-class platform with FortiGate-5001 FA2 and FortiGate-5005 FA2 security blades in high availability mode for firewall, VPN, antivirus and intrusion prevention protection. The high-performance of the FortiGate-5000 platform helps provides the bandwidth required to protect DPG's redundant terabyte backbone.

Additionally, 75 FortiWiFi-60B appliances help secure the new DPG outdoor wireless network, which spans more than 40 kilometers of desert terrain. These systems are being used for IPSec VPN, firewall, antivirus and intrusion prevention.

To easily analyze its Fortinet network security deployment, DPG deployed Fortinet's FortiAnalyzer-2000A to help provide centralized network security logging, analysis and reporting on all the FortiGate appliances.

All FortiGate systems protect DPG's network 24x7 and are kept up to date automatically by Fortinet's FortiGuard(TM) Network, which helps ensure protection against the most damaging, content-based threats from email and Web traffic such as viruses, worms, intrusions and other unwanted network traffic.
