San Francisco Chronicle Announces Its Primary Campaign Endorsements

Market Wire, January, 2008

The San Francisco Chronicle will begin announcing its support of candidates in the Democratic and Republican primaries this weekend.

John Diaz, Editorial page editor, plans to include his endorsement for the Democratic primary in an election coverage package that will appear in the Insight section of the Chronicle on Sunday, January 27. The Republican endorsement will appear in the paper on the following Monday.

"This could well be the first time in 36 years that the California primary will play a decisive role in a major party nomination," said Editorial Board Editor John Diaz, "and it could prove pivotal in both the Republican and Democratic races. In our endorsement process, we assessed the ability of the candidates to address the issues that have been of concern to our editorial board, and to provide the vision and leadership this nation so desperately needs."

The San Francisco Chronicle is the Bay Area's leading news and information source and has been connecting the region with its award-winning journalism since its founding in 1865.
