Top Houston Subdivision Riverstone Adds New Amenity That Should Prove 'Paw'-Pular
Market Wire, January, 2008
New home builders in Houston are finding that the top communities are going above and beyond to offer lifestyle amenities for their residents. Riverstone, a master planned development of Houston new homes, is nearing completion on a new amenity that will not only cater to man, but also to man's best friend.
The 3.5-acre dog park, opening this spring, will have two leash-free enclosed areas for small-to-medium sized dogs and large dogs. Each area will have canine obstacle course equipment as well as shade structures and benches. The park will have five-foot wide concrete sidewalks, a pet cleaning station and a water fountain, pet bowl and water hose.
Dog parks have seen a surge in popularity over recent years, both nationally and around Houston. Since the area's first dog park, Millie Bush Bark Park, opened in late 2003, a dozen other tail-wagging facilities have embarked throughout the Houston metropolitan area. According to www.houstondogpark.org , Riverstone's canine "trot spot" will be the first in the Sugar Land/Missouri City area. There are more than 700 dog parks throughout the country.
The dog park isn't the only new amenity on Riverstone's horizon. A second recreation center is planned and will complement the existing resort-style complex.
"We're excited by the prospect of opening two new amenities this year," said Tom Wilcox, Riverstone general manager. "The dog park especially will be an important new feature in our diverse landscape of planned amenities."
Residents already enjoy a lush swimming complex contoured with rock waterfalls and panoramic lake views, as well as playgrounds, lighted tennis courts, a fishing pier and pedestrian walkways and trails. In all, Riverstone's master plan includes 250 acres of lakes and more than 500 acres of open space and parklands.
With a diverse collection of homes priced from the $200s to over $3 million, Riverstone is conveniently located at Highway 6, three miles south of U.S. 59, and offers easy access to several major thoroughfares, including the Fort Bend Parkway. Abundant dining and shopping choices are just minutes away, including First Colony's booming Town Center.
