Governors, Members of Congress to Find Out Where Their States Rank in Electronic Prescription Use
Market Wire, February, 2008
Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich will unveil the first-ever nationwide ranking and analysis of electronic prescribing or "e-prescribing" activity across all 50 states and Washington, D.C., during a press conference and breakfast to be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 on Capitol Hill. Mr. Gingrich, who is the founder of the Center for Health Transformation, will also present the third annual Safe-Rx Awards to officials and leading physicians from the top 10 e-prescribing states.
Joining Mr. Gingrich will be Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.). Senator Kerry will discuss pending developments with the E-MEDS bill, a bi-partisan effort led by Senators Kerry and John Ensign (R-Nev.) to expedite the adoption of electronic prescribing technology by physicians across America.
The event will also feature the launch of a new nationwide program designed to help more physicians begin e-prescribing in advance of new Medicare regulations that take effect starting January 1, 2009. The effort is being led by four prominent physician associations -- the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA). Dr. William Jessee, president and CEO of the MGMA, will announce the details of this groundbreaking effort by physicians to move from paper to electronic prescribing.
