Infonetics Research: Network security market up 20% in 2007 to $5.2B

The worldwide network security appliance and software market grew 20% to $5.2 billion in 2007 over 2006, according to Infonetics Research's quarterly Network Security Appliances and Software report.
"2007 was a strong year across the board for the network security market, with nearly all segments contributing to the strong growth," said Jeff Wilson principal analyst for network security at Infonetics Research. "Secure routers and SSL VPN gateways did particularly well in 2007 and we expect them to continue selling well at least through 2011."
Other highlights from the report:
-- Worldwide network security appliance and software sales increased 4%
in 4Q07 over 3Q07
-- Worldwide secure router sales jumped 39% from 2006 to 2007
-- Integrated appliances and software made up 85% of all network security
revenue in 4Q07, IDS/IPS made up 15%
-- In 4Q07, North America accounts for 45% of network security appliances
and software revenue, EMEA 30%, Asia Pacific 20%, and CALA 5%
-- Cisco continues to lead the overall network security market, followed
by Juniper and Check Point
