Data Domain Joins SNIA
Market Wire, April, 2008
Data Domain (NASDAQ: DDUP), the leading provider of deduplication storage systems for enterprise disk backup and network-based disaster recovery, today announced that it has joined the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA). Data Domain will work with SNIA and its member companies to help define, implement, qualify and teach improved and reliable methods for the protection, retention and lifecycle management of electronic data and information.
Data Domain has also joined SNIA's Data Management Forum (DMF) and is a founding member of the DMF's new Data Deduplication and Space Reduction Special Interest Group (DDSR SIG). With other DDSR SIG member companies, Data Domain is participating in advancing market adoption of deduplication technology and is educating end-users regarding its ROI and related best practices. For example, SNIA veteran Devin Hamilton, Principal Systems Engineer and Storage Architect at Data Domain, was recently elected co-chairman of the DMF's Data Protection Initiative (DPI). Hamilton recently delivered a deduplication tutorial on behalf of the DDSR SIG at Storage Networking World in April. His history of work with the SNIA spans several companies over seven years, and he has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the DMF and is coordinating the participation of additional Data Domain resources across the organization.
"It is important that vendors, resellers and end users work together to collaborate on ideas and share knowledge with the common goal of developing, promoting and marketing innovative storage technologies," said Devin Hamilton, Data Domain Principal Systems Engineer and co-chairman of SNIA's DMF Data Protection Initiative. "As a technology, Data Deduplication holds out so many opportunities for the simplification of storage processes and data management. Still, best practices and ongoing education will be necessary to ensure that its promise is fully realized by the end user community. We look forward to actively contributing to SNIA's efforts."
SNIA leads the storage industry worldwide in developing and promoting standards, technologies, and educational services to empower organizations in the management of information. Data Domain was a pioneer in the development of data deduplication technologies and is now shipping its fifth generation of deduplication storage systems.
"We are pleased to welcome Data Domain as a new member, especially given their experience with data deduplication solutions," said Jeff Porter, Chair of SNIA Data Management Forum. "The Data Deduplication and Space Reduction Special Interest Group is a new and exciting effort for the SNIA DMF. We welcome all vendors in the data deduplication market who take an active role in this committee."
