Xantrex(TM) XW Hybrid Inverter/Charger Achieves Highest Efficiency Rating in its Class
Market Wire, April, 2008
Xantrex Technology Inc. (TSX: XTX) announces its new 4.5 kilowatt (kW) XW Hybrid Inverter/Charger has achieved a CEC efficiency rating of 93% based on the California Energy Commission (CEC) test protocol. This is the highest efficiency rating for grid-interactive inverters with battery backup.
The Xantrex 4.5 kW XW Hybrid Inverter/Charger outperforms its direct battery-based competition by 2%, and even outperforms some of the grid-interactive inverters without battery backup on the CEC list.
"These results demonstrate that XW Hybrid Inverter/Charger customers can enjoy the benefits of backup power without compromising efficiency," said John Wallace, Xantrex CEO. "Xantrex designed the XW to stand out from its competition, and the CEC findings show we have achieved that goal, reinforcing our proven leadership in the solar market with innovative products and cutting-edge technology."
The Xantrex XW Hybrid Inverter/Charger efficiently converts direct current (DC) energy into high quality alternating current (AC) electricity for household use. The inverter is a component of the XW System, a fully-integrated battery-based system designed for residential and commercial solar and backup power applications. It was engineered using a complete systems approach, with integrated balance-of-systems components and a reliable, clean, compact design. Targeting 4 kW to 18 kW indoor installations, the Xantrex XW System is a renewable energy power solution that can be customized to suit almost any solar or backup power application: grid-interactive, off-grid, remote or village power.
The Xantrex XW System offers best-in-class efficiency, reliability and high surge performance. It is configurable for multi-unit installations, and scalable for higher power levels. It features true sine wave technology, power factor corrected battery charging, grid-tie capability, generator support, 120/240-volt split-phase operation, communications and monitoring - all from a single inverter/charger.
