University of Waterloo Selects Aruba Networks to Upgrade Wireless LAN and Enhance Security of Existing Wired Network

Aruba Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: ARUN), a global leader in wireless LANs and secure unified mobility solutions, today announced that the University of Waterloo has commenced deployment of a facility-wide wireless LAN and a security upgrade to its residence hall wired LAN at its 1,000 acre Waterloo, Ontario campus. The University of Waterloo was founded in 1957 and has more than 27,000 students and 3,000 faculty and staff members. Following a request for proposal and a technical evaluation of both single- and multi-channel wireless LANs, Aruba was selected for the university's wireless project based on its ease of deployment, remote diagnostics, centralized management, and security. Aruba's identity-based security was also a key factor behind the decision to protect the university's residence hall wired distribution layer using Aruba technology.

The university's legacy wireless access points were very difficult to manage, and it was difficult to expand access throughout the campus. The wireless network includes Aruba's 80Gbps MMC-6000 Multi-Service Mobility Controllers, and the initial deployment consists of more than 600 access points located in academic buildings, and 500 access points in residence halls. The size of the fully deployed network is expected to exceed 1,500 access points in total.
