DIY Design Trend Fueled By Soft Housing Market and Makeover TV Shows

Market Wire,  May, 2008

According to the AIA Home Trends Design Survey, architects are reporting a declining interest in upper-end features and products when doing a room makeover or home redesign. This is attributed to a combination of the weak residential market and TV shows such as "Design on a Dime," "Decorating Cents" and "Design Remix," the low-cost makeover shows that encourage homeowners to transform a room's look by using things they already have in the house.

Kitchens and bathrooms are still the focus of redesign in the home, says the report. The kitchen is often the center of the home and is acknowledged as the most important room to remodel.

DIY designers are looking for a cleaner, simpler look. There is a growing interest in environmentally friendly sustainable products, such as renewable material for countertops and flooring in kitchens, and water-saving toilets and LED lighting in bathrooms. One company in tune with these findings is FLOR.

"Redesign of a room often starts with your choice of flooring," says Greg Colando, President of FLOR. "Over the last year we have focused on creating a range of designer floor tiles that are eco-friendly and sustainable, but that allow you to create exciting design options. Our modular carpet tiles are made for people who want to customize a space with a balance of the creative and the practical."

FLOR's carpet tiles are a perfect fit for DIY kitchen/family room makeovers as they can be connected to build unique area rugs, runners or wall-to-wall carpeting. By combining one module with others, the DIY designer can give free reign to their creativity and build a look for their home that is totally new and different.

All raw materials in FLOR carpet tiles are carefully chosen for their non-toxicity, their positive life-cycle analysis (including recyclability) and high performance, using recycled, renewable and natural polymers whenever possible.

For the creative DIY designers striving to recreate a beautiful home on a budget, FLOR carpet tiles are an elegant solution.
