Z-Wave Alliance Members -- 4HomeMedia, Crayon Interface, GE/Jasco, and Panasonic -- Unveil Turnkey Security-Monitoring-Automation Solution Set for MSOs

A consortium of industry-leading vendors within the Z-Wave Alliance today announced that they will be debuting at The Cable Show '08 a benchmark solution set for MSOs designed to jumpstart SMA (Security-Monitoring-Automation) service rollouts. The solution will be on display as part of CableNET (Booth #3735), a showcase for content and services that cable customers may see and experience in the near future.

The pre-integrated set of hardware and software products enable the turnkey, cost-effective, and reliable deployment of SMA services for new monthly recurring revenue streams beyond the increasingly price-commoditized "triple play" of video-voice-Internet access service bundles. In addition, these SMA services reduce subscriber churn as a "sticky" solution deployed throughout the home while also responding to consumer demand for personalized security, energy conservation, and connected lifestyle solutions.

"Service providers are well-positioned to capitalize on home monitoring, control and security solutions that can be easily installed in existing homes," said Bill Ablondi, director of home systems research at Parks Associates. "The presence of several key members of the Z-Wave Alliance at the upcoming CableNET show indicates that manufacturers are prepared to address the specific needs of service providers. These activities coupled with initiatives of some of the smaller MSOs will definitely prod top tier providers into action this year."

The Z-Wave Alliance consortium demonstration for SMA at CableNET will highlight several compelling consumer use cases, including security and home control scenarios, which have been proven to be successful with consumers and can serve as marketing messaging for MSOs to offer the services to their customers.

"Personalized security and connected home control via a whole-home user-interface (UI) -- available on the TV, PC, mobile phone, and touch panels -- are increasingly of interest to consumers. What we're giving MSOs is a simple way to monetize this end-user demand with SMA services and the associated starter kit of devices," said Mark Walters, Chairman of the Z-Wave Alliance. "With these best-of-breed devices, consumers will be able to monitor and manage their home environment both in the home and remotely over their broadband cable modem connection from their mobile phone or a browser interface."

The products and vendors on display at CableNET '08 will include: Z-Wave-enabled wireless door locks; IP cameras from Panasonic; Z-Wave lighting and appliance controls from GE/Jasco; a white-label mobile phone UI from Crayon Interface; a white-label PC/TV/touch panel UI and robust devices/services management platform from 4HomeMedia.

"These products bring a wealth of expertise from the top vendors in each of their respective categories, distilled into a viable package that is quick-to-deploy, easy-to-use, and able to be remotely managed," added Walters.

The Z-Wave Alliance SMA starter kit is available for immediate deployment and can be viewed in the CableNET showcase at The Cable Show 2008 (Booth #3735).

CableNET 2008 ( www.cablenet.org ) takes place from May 18 - 20 at Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.
