OhioHealth Selects Cisco MDS Storage and Optical Networking Solutions to Achieve Highly Available Data, Improve Business Continuity, Increase Bandwidth, and Reduce Costs

Market Wire, May, 2008

The Cisco MDS 9500 Series represents key technology that interoperates with and supports Cisco's broad range of data center solutions, including: the new Nexus 7000 and 5000 platforms; application delivery networking solutions, and Cisco ACE (application control engine) to manage application delivery in the data center; Cisco VFrame for network-based service orchestration; Cisco switching and routing infrastructure; and Cisco Wide Area Applications Services (WAAS) to speed application performance across the wide area network.

In addition to planned FCoE support for the MDS 9500 Series, Cisco is also delivering FCoE capability today with the Nexus 5000 Series data center-class switches, a new addition to Cisco's Data Center 3.0 architecture designed to meet stringent customer requirements for operational continuity, transport flexibility and scalability. With the Nexus 5000 Series, IT managers can use FCoE to consolidate traffic from Fibre Channel-based storage area networks, local area networks and server clusters onto an Ethernet-based unified fabric. A unified fabric helps IT organizations to simplify cabling infrastructure, reduce the number of required adapters, lower costs, and reduce power consumption and carbon footprint. EMC, a world leader in information infrastructure solutions, is working with Cisco to qualify the Nexus 5000 as part of its infrastructure portfolio.

"EMC and Cisco share a common vision for providing an integrated network fabric for our Fibre Channel over Ethernet solutions," said Paul Brown, vice president of Integration and Interoperability for EMC. "Today EMC is working with Cisco to qualify the Cisco Nexus 5000 in our E-Lab in order to provide customers with a complete unified fabric solution, targeting customer deployments in 2H CY2008."
