78 Percent of Nortel Users Plan to Deploy Unified Communications within Two Years
Market Wire, June, 2008
INNUA , the international Nortel (TSX: NT)(NYSE: NT) user's group, today issued the results of its survey of 800 Nortel customers worldwide which says that 78 percent plan to deploy unified communications within the next two years. The independent survey results from Webtorials also found 58 percent of users surveyed were more interested in unified communications now than 12 months ago.
INNUA announced the results of the survey entitled - Unified Communications Pervades the Enterprise - at Global Connect, its annual conference for Nortel enterprise customers. Global Connect is being held in Grapevine, Texas at the Gaylord Texan Resort this week.
Unified communications enable people to connect instantly via voice, IM and phone, for example, at the click of a mouse. They provide the ability to know if someone is available and the best manner in which to contact them; saving time, enhancing productivity and removing human latency from communications. Unified communications enables enterprises to closely align their business processes with their IT investments. As the business benefits become more well-known, the attractiveness of unified communications solutions is leading to greater adoption.
"This new, independent survey shows that Nortel users are leading the transition to unified communications. This survey of leading-edge enterprises reveals the anticipated benefits are being recognized, planned for and deployed more quickly than ever before by enterprises," said Steve Ford, president of INNUA, Nortel's global user group. "INNUA represents leading companies that have taken a forward-looking approach to creating the most effective communications processes for their business case."
"The real potential for unified communications is not only to streamline communications and simplify the network, but also to enable enterprises to focus on their core business faster, better and more efficiently," said Joel Hackney, president, Enterprise Solutions, Nortel. "These survey results prove that our customers are increasingly adopting the power of unified communications and the benefits they bring in terms of speed, agility and flexibility to enterprise communications. With a payback period of one year or less, Nortel customers are taking advantage of the business improvements and efficient communications this technology enables."
The survey results are based on a sampling of more than 800 Nortel enterprise customers. All respondents either belong to one or both Nortel user groups, INNUA or INSIGHT 100 inc, a group comprised of large campus users. More than 60 percent of respondents are represented by healthcare, government, financial and education customers. In addition, an overwhelming majority - 93 percent - of respondents recognize that unified communication solutions cannot be 'bolted on' separately but must be closely integrated with today's desktop environment.
According to the survey results, the main drivers for unified communications adoption are:
- Enhanced workforce productivity through accelerated communications - 74 percent
- Enhanced workflow productivity - 65 percent
- Enhanced customer service through responsiveness - 59 percent
- Improved collaboration - 56 percent
Other critical areas enabled by unified communications that were recognized by respondents include the support for a mobile workforce and the ability to coordinate communications effectively to mobile and teleworkers:
- Simplification in management of multiple communications devices and message inboxes - 63 percent
- Improved integration and access for remote and mobile workers - 62 percent
- Access to critical information from multiple locations via multiple devices - 59 percent
