Tom Sherak Discussed the State of the Entertainment Industry & Neurology Experts Discussed Latest Treatments in Multiple Sclerosis (MS) at Speaker Series Hosted by NSBN LLP

Entertainment industry veteran, Tom Sherak, and Doctors John Mazziotta and Rhonda Voskuhl of UCLA's Department of Neurology, delivered insightful presentations to hundreds of friends and clients of NSBN LLP, CPAs and Business Consultants ( www.nsbn.com ), at a luncheon held in Century City on May 22, 2008 hosted by the CPA firm.

"It looks like there will be an actor's strike," said Sherak, who is also founder of the Sherak Family Foundation at UCLA and an active board member of the Southern California Multiple Sclerosis Society. "There are 400,000 people diagnosed with MS in the United States and 2,000,000 worldwide," said Dr. Mazziotta, Chair of the UCLA Department of Neurology, who established the first Brain Mapping Center at UCLA. The two experts presented an overview and update on a promising, ongoing clinical trial at UCLA into MS that's using the female hormone, estriol, to combat the disease's effects. (An earlier pilot study in which 10 women with MS were given estriol yielded remarkable results -- an 80 percent drop in inflammatory lesions in the brain, a hallmark of the disease.) "Estriol treatment goals are neuroprotective (anti-inflammatory), a pill instead of an injection, relatively inexpensive, and nontoxic," said Dr. Voskuhl, principal investigator of the trial. "We were pleased with the event as there were diverse business community members which included the entertainment and MS community that were interested in both topics and had plenty of questions answered," stated Ken Miles, CPA, Managing Partner of NSBN LLP.
