APC Introduces Enterprise-Class Remote Console Manager
Market Wire, June, 2008
APC, a global leader in integrated critical power and cooling services, today announced its introduction of the Remote Console Manager (RCM), an enterprise-class out-of-band management solution that reduces IT support costs. It includes a richer feature set than more traditional serial console servers, including IT maintenance task automation, proactive monitoring, reporting and alerting of preset network parameters, security compliance for Sarbanes Oxley (SOX), FERC, BASEL II, GLBA and PCI DSS, a variety of secure out-of-band access methods, remote power management and fast file transfers for large files like operating systems and image files.
APC's RCM significantly reduces IT support costs through automation of common IT maintenance tasks like OS upgrades, password updates and device configuration changes. If a configuration error is made, the RCM can automatically rollback to the last known good configuration for attached devices. APC's RCM proactively monitors, reports, and alerts on up to 40 preset parameters as often as every 30 seconds, increasing uptime and productivity. When security and regulatory compliance are critical, the RCM's integrated security features minimize threats and unauthorized access through event logs that can capture down to individual keystroke. The RCM can analyze the logs and automatically recover, ensuring that security policies are always enforced and audited, even during an outage.
"Today's IT managers dealing with distributed environments are looking to increase efficiencies for routine maintenance tasks while increasing uptime," said John DiPippo, senior vice president, Data Center Solutions, Services, and Software, APC. "Ensuring security policies are enforced and government regulations are complied with is critical regardless of the state of the network."
Out-of-band access methods include dial-up, cellular and satellite. Remote power management is possible through integration with APC Switched Rack Power Distribution Units (PDU). The RCM appliance has two option card slots. The option cards offer either 16 serial ports or a combination of 8 serial and 8 Ethernet ports. The combination card is ideal for quick file transfers like operating systems or image files to critical IT assets, when a serial connection is not fast enough.
APC's new Remote Console Manager is currently available in North America. For more information on APC's Remote Console Manager and the company's other physical infrastructure products, please call 800-877-4080 or visit www.apc.com .
