D-Link Launches New 802.11n Dual Band Router

Market Wire,  June, 2008

D-Link, the end-to-end networking solutions provider for consumer and business, today introduced the newest product in its award-winning RangeBooster N® line of 11n Wi-Fi solutions, the DIR-628, a competitively priced solution for creating a powerful home network optimized for high-definition (HD) video streaming, file sharing, VoIP calls, gaming and Web surfing.

The affordable DIR-628 launched with an MSRP of $119.99, giving the product an estimated street price (ESP) of under $100. The router offers dual band 802.11n Wi-Fi technology with selectable 2.4GHz or 5GHz radio bands, enabling users to create a high-performance network tailored to their needs and applications. A typical scenario could include checking email and sharing a broadband Internet connection using the common 2.4GHz band and then switching to the less crowded 5GHz band for more bandwidth-intensive applications such as streaming HD movies throughout the home or playing online games. It also includes D-Link's Quality of Service (QoS) engine that prioritizes time-sensitive network traffic to enable smooth VoIP phone calls and responsive gaming.

"With its switchable 802.11n dual band technology, this new 11n router is a powerful solution for building out a digital home capable of driving a wide range of applications," said A.J. Wang, Chief Technology Officer, D-Link. "It offers superb range and performance for anyone seeking to enhance network access at an extremely affordable price."

The D-Link RangeBooster N Dual Band Router supports the latest wireless security features to help prevent unauthorized access, be it from over the wireless network or the Internet. It carries support for WPA(TM) and WPA2(TM) standards to ensure the best possible encryption, regardless of client devices. In addition, the RangeBooster N Router utilizes dual active firewalls (SPI and NAT) to help prevent potential attacks from across the Internet.

The DIR-628 is easy to install and use with the D-Link Quick Router Setup Wizard or using Wi-Fi Protected Setup(TM) (WPS). It is backward compatible with 802.11g and 11b devices including game consoles and digital media players.
