LG Electronics Sets the Stage for a National Thumb War

LG Electronics Canada challenges Canadians to put on their game thumbs for the country's first organized mobile text messaging competition. At the LG Canadian Texting Championship, players can taste victory by showing off their texting skills, speed and accuracy. Qualifying tournaments will take place across the country throughout the summer, leading up to the ultimate battle for the LG Canadian Texting Championship crown in August.

The LG Canadian Texting Competition is free and open to the general public, kicking off in Toronto on June 26, 2008 at the Eaton Centre. The tour continues with regional qualifying tournaments around the country until returning to Toronto on August 26, 2008 at the Diesel Playhouse where finalists will compete for up to $25,000 in cash and prizes including a $5,000 trip for two to Cancun, Mexico provided by Breakaway Tours. Two regional qualifiers will be chosen from BC, the Midwest Region (AB, SK, MB), Ontario and the Eastern Region (QP + Maritimes).

At the regional qualifying tournaments, players will be asked to type phrases exactly as they appear on the overhead LG screen. The two fastest players in each region will receive a trip for two to attend the final championship in Toronto and $1,000 spending money. Players compete on their choice of the LG Keybo (from Telus), LG Rumour (from Bell) or LG Vu (from Rogers) handset.

Those Canadians outside tour locations can still compete by visiting www.lg.ca/texting where they can play Crypto-Short-Form. Players with the 10 highest scores and one lucky random participant will be entered to win the LG golden ticket to the finals in Toronto for their chance to compete for the title.

Competitors also have the chance to win more prizes at www.muchmusic.com including an LG QWERTY keypad mobile device everyday of the competition and a $10,000 cash prize.
