After Friday's Bell Market Commentary

On Friday, the markets tumbled to a lower close, despite government reassurances that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will have access to capital. The Dow plummeted below 11,000 for the first time in two years. A $5 jump in oil prices to a new record above $147 a barrel didn't help much either. U.S. crude settled at $145.08 a barrel. Bond prices fell. The benchmark

10-year U.S. Treasury note fell 41/32 to yield 3.96 percent. The dollar fell against other major currencies. Gold prices rose $17.05 to $963.20 an ounce. The Dow Jones industrial average closed down 128.48 points, or 1.14 percent, at 11,100.54. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 18.77 points, or 0.83 percent, at 2,239.08. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was down 13.90 points, or 1.11 percent, at 1,239.49. The Russell 2000 closed up 4.51, or 0.67%, at 674.95.
